About
Abundance is a community project to harvest the seasonal glut of local fruit and food- nettles and elderflowers through
Abundance's main goal is to help harvest the glut of city fruit, and redistribute the surplus to the community on a not-for-profit basis - to community cafes, homeless shelters, old people's homes, asylum seeker projects, Surestarts and individuals. This requires PEOPLE POWER, and we need YOU- to help coordinate, to spread the word, to tell us about trees you know of that we can pick, to shake trees and pick fruit and to help transport the tasty harvest and get it to all those in need (as well as eat a good few fruit on the way :) )
Why not SUGGEST an event or workshop if you want to skill-share, or join in on one of the events already organised? All ideas welcome and we can help with where to run the event, and can help provide equipment and ingredients!
Abundance Oxford is inspired by Steve Watts and Anne-Maria Culhane's project in Sheffield (Abundance Sheffield-http://www.growsheffield.com/pages/groShefAbund.html ) which has since spread across the UK and with YOUR HELP will soon be blossoming in Oxford!
to the more commonly picked apples, pears and plums. Each year hundreds of fruit trees go unpicked either because people don’t notice them, may not be physically able to harvest them or there are just too many fruits at one time.
PLEASE use this map to locate Trees etc that volunteers can then come to harvest rather than letting food go to waste (even if the fruit is rotting we can still use it!)
